Digestive Dilemma

While we might not admit to it, many of us suffer with daily digestive issues, especially Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Recent studies suggest 15% or more of people worldwide suffer with this disorder; if you’re one of them, you’ll be happy to hear that there are plenty of natural ways to help. One remedy is warm spiced tea, stimulating the release of digestive enzymes to support the movement of food through our system. Teas can also house many other helpful ingredients to aid our aching bellies. One key ingredient is the ‘Ashwagandha’ herb; its an ‘adaptogen’ that can act to combat stress by reducing cortisol levels and enduring a calming effect for the body. Another herbal hero is liquorice, especially when trying to curb your sugar intake; sugary foods can lead to a growth in ‘unfriendly’ bacteria and yeasts that may serve to increase IBS symptoms. Finally, if flatulence is the issue then search out fennel to tackle gas and calm your nervous system.

  • 35% – 40% of individuals reporting IBS symptoms are male; 60 – 65% are female
  • IBS occurs in up to 20% of the UK population
