schedule I have learnt the importance of looking after your body and listening to what it needs. Sleep and a healthy diet are paramount. If I’ve been on an early or late shift, that is when cravings for naughty sweet things can kick in, so it’s important I have something on hand, like a protein ball snack or a hand full of nuts, to satisfy the cravings.
I’m not a regular user of protein shakes but I have used them on occasion, usually the neat nutrition lean protein vanilla shake. It actually tastes like vanilla ice cream in a cup, which is a bonus, as some protein shakes I find don’t taste that good.
I’m a firm believer in balance and not denying yourself anything; the more you try and do that the more you’ll want that chocolate bar.
One thing I can’t do without is peanut butter. I’m addicted to the stuff. I usually have it for breakfast, whether on toast or a spoonful in my protein porridge. It’s also a great nutritious post-workout snack.
I can’t get enough of avocados either. High in healthy fats, they also taste great. Smash them on toast, poach an egg and stick some avocado in the middle or chop them up in salads. I love matcha green tea, too; jam packed with antioxidants. One serving of matcha is roughly the nutritional equivalent of ten cups of normal green tea, it’s a no brainer!
like to train as well as eat clean, but it can be tricky fitting training around work hours as they can be unpredictable. I try and make sure I get something in before or after work as I find it helps me get ready for the day or equally unwind. If I’ve been working late it’s hard to drag yourself out of bed for that early morning class or run, but my incentive is knowing that when I’ve done it I’ll feel better for it, and that usually works. That, and knowing there is a strong cup of coffee afterwards also helps!
Working in sport means I am surrounded by incredible athletes on a regular basis, I recently interviewed Chris Froome on Sky Sports News just after he won stage 10 of the Tour De France, and I am in awe of what they put their bodies through on the Tour, these guys really have another level of fitness and mental strength. Presenting netball on Sky Sports for the past two seasons has also opened my eyes to the level of fitness those girls have. They are so physically fit, strong and agile. It has certainly motivated and inspired me in my training.
I love boxing, TRX training, running and pilates, though not all at the same time. I love a good selfie too, but more on all of that in the next issue!
