It can be tough both mentally and physically. A lot of people think it’s all after-parties and wild nights, but it’s something we all take very seriously because we’re passionate about the music and the scene. We’ve seen instances where the touring side has taken its toll on some artists over the years. I’ve always believed that being on the road is something you need to prepare for. Eating healthily and looking after yourself are two really important things when travelling from show to show. I work out three times a week with a personal trainer. It’s an essential part of being a touring artist; you need to ensure you’re at the top of your game.
Without good health and good fitness, you’re not going to last long in this industry
Thanks to the amazing popularity of dance music nowadays we’re blessed with the opportunity to tour all over the world, so there are more shows to DJ at these days. My DJ friends and I are all music freaks, we just love it, and love getting the chance to share our music with the fans in different parts of the world. Yet you have to understand that it is a really testing lifestyle.
It’s important to eat and rest well so I can be 100% prepared for when I’m DJing.
I’m very aware of my diet and everything is in moderation. I hit the gym as often as I can with a regime my trainer has set up for me. I also do a lot of cardio and strength work. When I’m on stage, the effort and commitment I put into my set is a workout on its own, so I need to have the stamina and ability to last the entire set. I want to give the fans something they’ll remember forever in every set.
I was really into Judo as a teenager.
I loved it, but as music became more and more a part of my life, it was difficult to keep up with the training on the road. Sometimes I do miss it because it was a great form of discipline and exercise but I haven’t managed to find the time to dust off my Judogi. These days I use my time to get into the gym and do full-body workouts.
I’m pretty disciplined with my training.
I’ve got a plan that I work to and which changes drastically to make sure I’m always hitting my fitness goals. I’ll train anything upwards of three times week. The focus is stamina, strength and core. I’ll usually train Monday, Wednesday and Friday, though Mondays can be hard if I’m jet-lagged.
My gym gear is an essential part of my travel pack.
You need to be smart and plan your workouts in advance and make sure to plan your meals. Hotel food can be amazing, but it can also be really bad. The temptation to eat junk food is strong for everyone on the road. I’m big on healthy eating, so I do my best to avoid it where I can.
I’ve always been quite a nocturnal person.
I think that helps a little as you are used to an irregular body clock. With jet-lag, it’s best to avoid alcohol and heavy meals when travelling and also try to get your body clock in line with the time zone you’re visiting, or as best you can. It’s difficult to beat it sometimes because you can be travelling at a set time or have a busy schedule when you land.
Go to the other side of Ibiza to detox your mind and body.
It has some incredibly beautiful beaches to relax on and there are many healthy restaurants and spas to enjoy. The island is becoming more and more health-conscious now with everything from yoga to cycling increasingly popularity activities.

I am playing a special DJ set at the UN HQ’s in New York,where I will be appearing as a special guest as part of an event organised which will to be held in June. I’ll be there talking about my United We Are Foundation, which is a charity project I launched last year. I’ll then be back in Ibiza all summer with a new show called ‘DNA’ at Ushuaia, it’s going to be the biggest and best party on the island! I’ll be touring all the major festivals this summer and I have also just announced a new “I Am Hardwell ‑ United We Are” show at Hockenheim in Germany on August 27, which is going to be a big event and my final show of this tour. I’m very excited to be closing this tour on such a big occasion!

My new track, and one that’s a collaboration with one of the hottest talents coming out of Holland right now. This is a serious dance-floor destroyer. It’ll have the blood rushing before you even touch the treadmill.
It’s got this amazing groove edge to it, which I love and feel is such a good record to put on when you want to find that higher gear. An ideal training buddy!
When you’re working out you need something that will push you, and ‘Hollywood’ is the perfect tonic for that extra bolt of energy! Like a shot to the arm, the build-up just swarms and then it’s an all-out party attack once it drops.
This song’s been a big hit in my sets for a long while and I think that energy carries all the way through to the gym. It’s very euphoric and just gets the blood pumping.
One of the biggest songs in my set for a long while now and it’s a firm favourite with the fans. ‘Apollo’ is such a room-filling record and that ideal gym track for getting you going when you’re nearly at the end of your energy levels.
Pacey, catching and bumping. It’s got enough swagger to make anybody run themselves to the finish line.
I think we all know this one and what an incredible record from a famous trio. A spin-tingling record that will give you all the motivation you need!
A larger-than-life record and one that will bust a hole in any club roof. It’ll do the same in any gym too, so watch out. This is jam-packed with energy!
A great outdoor record for when the sun is shining and you want to hit the road. It’ll add miles to your personal best!
