TOUGH MUDDER

Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September
Holmbush Farm, Crawley Road Faygate, West Sussex, RH12 4SE

tough mudder
Tough Mudder, arguably the UK’s best and most well known adventure challenge series is back and it’s had an upgrade. What’s more, BESTFIT readers get 25% off. Hurrah!

Tough Mudder have been busy hosting a number of events this year but in September they’re hosting their biggest to date. Deep in West Sussex, at new venue Holmbush Farm, they’ve been assembling the mother of all assault courses for newbies and returning ‘Legionnaire’ Mudders.

Those who have taken part before will recognize some of the challenges of old, including The Pyramid Scheme. This year, you’ll see others have had a makeover while there are also plenty of new obstacles thrown in to keep you on your toes.

The Block Ness Monster, for example, is a challenge that encapsulates Tough Mudder’s testing fun. Here, Mudders have to hoist each other over a number of rotating blocks in waist-deep water.

First-time Mudders will no doubt have heard about some of the challenges that await them. Returning competitors get exclusive access to even more upgrades of selected obstacles, including Rain Man, a twist on the classic water obstacle Cage Crawl, and Backstabber, a more demanding and technical version of The Liberator. In addition, Legionnaires will have the option to bypass Electroshock Therapy and instead attempt a high-octane new finish obstacle, Frequent Flyers’ Club, culminating with a leap onto a crash mat from a 15-foot height.

You can enter on your own or, like most entrants, as part of a team, for Tough Mudder encourages teamwork and camaraderie. Whatever you choose, you’ll get a Merrell t-shirt at the end to add to the glory of finishing the biggest Tough Mudder yet.

So, get involved and bring your mates. Better still, bring your kids; younger participants can take part in the Fruit Shoot Mini Mudder, a one-mile course designed for those aged 7-12.

To sign up, visit ToughMudder.co.uk and use the code BESTFITMAG to get 25% off. You can also save 25% on other 2016 Tough Mudder events (excluding half events).

NUCLEAR RACES

November 12, Event Village, Secret Nuclear Bunker, Kelvedon Hatch Brentwood, Essex, CM15 0LA

It’s the last Nuclear Race of the year, which means they’re throwing everything at it. And good news, BESTFIT readers get a 10% discount!

The award-winning Nuclear Races are fun but tough events held over varied, undulating terrain. You can expect a highly organised event, with obstcales and relentless mud. The events are challenging enough for the elite but are designed to be achievable for all fitness abilities, including newbies. Nuclear Fallout is what the organisers call ‘their beast’. It’s their last event of 2016, so you’ll find over 80 natural and man-made obstacles on farmland and heavy Essex Clay, including the award-winning Deathslide. The 6km and 12km courses will also be muddier than any other time of the year… so duck-taping your trainers on isn’t a bad idea! They #lovemud, and you will too.

Don’t take our word for it! “It was an absolutely fantastic day!” said recent competitor Gemma Lloyd. “It was well-organised and great fun. I’ll be doing all the races next year.”
“It’s one of the most fantastically stupid things I’ve ever done, great fun,” agreed Matt Scorrar.

You can run together with like-minded people of all ages, backgrounds and athletic abilities whilst pushing your physical and mental limits. It will be exhilarating, challenging and extremely tough. As well as racing as an individual, they also welcome group entries as their events provide great team-building opportunities. Ticket prices at Nuclear include everything, there are no added extras for racers – so includes free parking, photos, showers/changing, camping, bagdrop, finish hot drink, medals, t-shirts/muddy-mugs and more.

Prices start from £59, but BESTFIT readers can get 10% simply by using the code ‘BF10’ at the checkout.
