Look out for Les Mills Grit, the Primal Series, the Grid series, Metafit and Insanity. If your gym doesn’t offer one of these, it may have its own version, so check out the class descriptions on the timetable for something similar. These classes are no soft option, they may only last 30 minutes but that means you’ll be required to give 100% throughout. Expect innovative programming and a coach who pushes you to your limit. Don’t assume these classes are all about cardio either. The programming is designed to develop all the components of fitness, from speed and agility to strength and power. Sessions are based around functional movement offering you a well-rounded session that will support results across your regular training, whether it’s sports, weights or running.
Don’t make the mistake of lumping these classes in with pump or circuits, they are fun, fresh and effective in a way you’ve not tried before. Surely you can find 30 minutes to try for yourself?
The music is fresh and funky and it’s there to provide motivation, not to facilitate complex choreography. You might look a bit cooler if you can move to the beat
but it really makes no difference to the workout you’ll get and the results you’ll achieve. Don’t let two left feet stop you from giving theses classes a go.
No I in team. Fans of these classes describe the environment as akin to sports-team training. You bond over the toughness of the exercises and help each other through. And if you’re worried about being the only guy in the room, you won’t be. Although quite honestly I can’t see why that would be a bad thing, especially if you’re single!
All you need to do is turn up. The coaches in these classes have been trained to push you to your limits. They’ll set the pace, check and correct your technique and ensure everyone stays motivated. Once you’ve walked through the door you can be sure you’ll get a great workout, perfect if you’re lacking motivation.
Fresh ideas. These classes are packed full of highly effective exercises. Pick your favourites and use them in your own sessions. Some of the sessions use body weight, whilst others incorporate innovation equipment like the Surge, slam balls and battling ropes. Sessions will be different every week to keep you on your toes.
