Director rob downham recalls his last spa experience and explains how you can follow suit. put those feet up…

“You can check in at Champneys from 2pm, so my wife and I arrived at 1.59pm to be welcomed by a very friendly gentleman called Stewart.

“He presented us with our robes and complimentary flip flops (it’s impossible to walk quietly in flip flops) and we were given our itinerary for our pre-booked treatments. I went for a one-hour massage (RRP £60) and Nikki the body wrap and facial (RRP £70). I was delighted to calculate that the list price for the treatments alone was more than we had paid for our entire stay (including upgrade to a superior room).

“Feeling rather self-satisfied, we visited the gym for an hour and after a quick courtesy shower went for our treatments. We then visited the spa, got very hot, cold and then hot again before dinner at 7.30pm. Here, we enjoyed a lovely Thai duck salad, chicken breasts complete with healthy vegetables and raspberry crème brûlée for dessert. This was washed down with a delightful seventimes filtered water (alcohol is available). We then retired for the night feeling satisfied and suitably relaxed.

“The next morning started with a workout followed by a delicious and nutritious breakfast and yoga class. We then relaxed in a quiet room for a few hours before a quick spa session and a fantastic buffet lunch.

“The entire stay, which included four treatments, six meals and use of all the facilities came to just £128! It’s for this reason that we use our full Champneys allowance each year (three visits of three nights’ maximum each time).”
