Every Day In May

every day in mayThere’s no better motivation for daily exercise than charity; this is the premise on which sporting challenge ‘Every Day in May’ – organised by fitnaturally – is based.

In a bid to raise funds for Dimbleby Cancer Care – who celebrate 50 years of providing cancer care support this year – participants will cover 5km or 10km every day during the month of May.
Will you accept the challenge?

Whether you want to walk, run, swim, cycle or skate the distance, it doesn’t matter as long as it gets covered with some form of exercise. Those taking part can even decide to split the distance in to two daily sessions, or work it into every day routines such as the morning routine and school runs. Location and time of day don’t need to be specific – just get the distance done!

Sally Pinnegar, Director of fitnaturally said: “fitnaturally is proud  to once again support Dimbleby Cancer Care through our annual fitness challenge. We’re all about prescribing natural food and exercise and we encourage people to use the outdoors for fitness, health and food provision.”

To join in, simply log your sessions each day on the event’s website, to update the tally of kilometres covered. The 10km challenge aims for total distance of 192.5 miles; the 5km challenge aims for 96.2 miles. That totals to about seven and a half/three and a half marathons in a month – just remember you don’t have to run! Walk, swim, cycle or even skate your way through each mile if you wish.

If you think you can smash this challenge, or need a little more information, head to www.everydayinmay.co.uk and sign up.

London To Paris Cycle

London to paris cycleLooking to make 2016 a year to remember? If so, join the  St Gemma’s team on their sponsored charity bike ride from London to Paris.

They’ll be connecting two of the world’s most chic capital cities in the challenge of a lifetime. Four days, three hundred miles, two capital cities makes one awesome ride! This unique cycle challenge takes cyclists through the beautiful Kent countryside to Dover, before crossing the Channel and continuing through the luscious green fields of Northern France. Cyclists will pass the war memorials and cemeteries of the Somme, before witnessing the pièce de résistance of this cycle challenge – the spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower, with the finish line situated right underneath it.  If that’s not enough, cycling enthusiasts can also consider taking part in the ‘Tour De France’ special in July. Participants will cycle the last few miles of the Tour de France route through Paris, before spending the following day amongst all the final stage action live from the world famous Champs-Elysees – it’s a cyclists dream!

2015 rider Keeley remarked, “This London to Paris cycle gave us an opportunity to do something positive, fun and challenging  whilst fundraising to help other patients and families get the amazing support & care that St Gemma’s provide. It really was a once in a life time challenge – awesome!”

Yorkshire Grand Départ has done its job with inspiring the county and the whole nation to get involved in the past, so places for both are expected to go quick. So don’t dawdle, and grab yours soon! All funds will help St Gemma’s Hospice provide the very best care to those with life threatening illnesses. A spectacular ride for a worthy cause

MBNA Chester Marathon 2 October

MBNA Chester MarathonNow into its seventh year, the Chester 26.2 miler has built up a solid reputation as being THE destination marathon.

Based at the spectacular Chester Racecourse, the race unashamedly exploits all that the historic city has to offer.  Runners head through the city centre passing many of its iconic landmarks before heading out into the stunning Cheshire countryside. The predominantly flat course even crosses the border into Wales (a truly international event!) and finally returns via the picturesque Chester Groves.

Since its inception, the MBNA Chester Marathon has grown rapidly in popularity, being voted into the top ten of UK marathons by runners every year since. It even clinched the No.1 spot in 2012 after getting 98% positive feedback from runners on Britain’s most popular running forum. It also has a reputation for being well organised, beginner friendly and in a beautiful city. The organisers always go the extra mile to create a high quality event that provides a memorable experience for the athletes. The Racecourse venue, with its first-class facilities, is a perfect setting, and it has the added bonus of being near to Chester’s famous shops and cafes – a big plus for the people supporting the runners!

2014 marked the addition of a Metric Marathon (26.2K or 16.3 miles) being offered for people who want to try a distance beyond the half marathon but don’t want to go the full distance. This has proved to be increasingly popular. A one-mile Fun Run and a squad of Pace Runners dedicated to supporting the runners through their marathon are just two more highlights in a package that is second to none.

Total Warrior
Now into it’s sixth year, Total Warrior is the pinnacle of obstacle racing. Join 25,000 Warriors to take on the greatest courses  in the finest venues.

Total Warrior is the pinnacle of obstacle racing and provides the most innovative and highest quality obstacle event in the UK. With around 30 punishing obstacles in each of the three courses, in Leeds, the Lake District and Edinburgh, Total Warrior offers greater variety and more obstacles-per-kilometre (or pain-for-your-pound!) than any other race.

The beauty of Total Warrior is that the precise nature of the challenge can differ from person to person. Timing chips are provided, so participants can set themselves a personal target or aim to do it faster than a friend or rival. For some, the challenge will be to complete all six of the Total Warrior event days in one calendar year. For others, it is to take home the coveted Best Fancy Dress prize. Some people sign up to lose weight; others sign up to raise money for a cause close to their hearts. But for most participants, ‘winning’ simply means crossing the finish line and enjoying a well-earned free beer. Whatever your personal goal, you’ll find the support and camaraderie of your fellow Warriors provides the motivation you need to achieve it. Just make sure you bring a change of clothes, you’re going to get a bit muddy.

So stick around, enjoy the festival atmosphere in the event village and savour the moment.
