Three more recipes with Natural ingredients… and big results!

My best-selling Funky Fresh Juice Book has finally  been brought to life as an app! There are over 100  mouth-watering juice and smoothie recipes to choose from, 20 ‘how-to-make’ recipe videos, an interactive shopping list feature and so much more! Variety is the spice of life and if you’re a regular juicer it’s good to mix things up from time to time and introduce a new recipe. So what better to whet your appetite than with three of my favourites?

BASIL LUSH!

bazil-lushYou won’t often see basil making its way into a Juice Master smoothie, but there is a first time for everything, and once you’ve tasted it you’ll be glad you did.

Ingredients:

1 small pineapple
1 (peeled) lime
1 small (ripe, peeled and pitted) mango
Leaves from 4 sprigs of fresh basil
3 tbsp bio live yoghurt
1 small handful ice cubes

How to Make:

Peel the lime leaving as much of the white pith as possible, it’s where most of the nutrients are. Juice the pineapple (no need to peel if you have a good juicer) and lime. Carefully slice the mango just off centre down both sides avoiding the large stone, then scoop out the flesh from the skin and add to the blender.

Add the basil, yoghurt (use soya yoghurt if you’re vegan) and ice, then blend until smooth. Scientific studies have established that compounds in basil oil have potent antioxidant, antiviral and antimicrobial properties and have potential in cancer treatments. Basil also is quite a good mosquito repellent!

Hay Fever Heaven

hayfever-heavenThis was another ailment I used to suffer from in a bad way. Like many diseases, there is a spectrum of severity for this particular disease. For some, hayfever means slightly itchy eyes and a bit of a sniffle. For others, it means feeling like you have been run over by a truck. My heart goes out to you if you fall into the latter category. I am not saying this will 100% clear all of your symptoms, but there is no harm in giving it a go as unlike most drugs, it’s “adverse side-effect free” (unless you are allergic to the ingredients of course!) It works for me every year and I hope it will for you too.

Ingredients:

6cm chunk ginger root
Half unwaxed lemon
1 large apple
1 small handful ice cubes

How to Make:

Simply juice the lot, then drink every single morning for at least four weeks before your pollen season starts, and every day during the whole season. Best taken in a small shot glass and downed in one.

I wish you a tissue, tablet and nasal spray free Indian summer.

cardio-workout-kingThe Cardio Workout King

All hail the king of juices for pre and post cardio workout.

1/4 medium cucumber
1 Golden Delicious apple
250ml Dr. Martins’ Coconut Water
1 small handful ice cubes

How to Make:

Juice the beetroot, celery, cucumber and apple. Add the juice to the blender along with the coconut water and ice. Blend until ready. Take half your juice about 30 minutes before a workout and the rest from a flask once you have finished and you are sitting in a nice hot sauna!
