Chloe“The human body isn’t always a sexual object. It can be used to display clothing, convey emotion through art or quite simply act as a scientific or physical reference point. The idea that the female body is nothing but a sex object in it’s near-naked form is somehow anti-feminist and feels deeply sexist to me. But hey, I am Richard and Judy’s daughter, so maybe that’s why I get a different reaction to other fitness bloggers.

“I post selfies for several reasons. Firstly, I want to show people the results I once thought impossible to achieve are in fact achievable. It just takes the right diet and exercise, along with consistency and research. Secondly, I want to reaffirm to myself what I have achieved. This may sound silly, but when I started I desperately wanted to be able to post pictures similar to my fitness idols and when I finally got there, it became sort of a celebration of all the hard work that went into it. Lastly, I do it because it is my business. It is my life. I am a qualified and active personal trainer and nutritionist, I own a fitness business, I train six days a week and I love every smelly, sweaty and painful minute of it. My body reflects my business and I am extremely proud of it.

“I have many clients both online and face-to-face. They come to me with all sorts of goals – from general health, to weight loss, low body fat, recovery from eating disorders and more. My advice is generally as follows: if you want to be fit and healthy, eat healthy food and move your body some days of the week. If you want to lose weight, eat healthy foods in small portions and move your body most days of the week. If you want muscle mass, eat healthy foods in large portions and lift heavy weights almost daily. If you want all of the above, or ‘toning’ (a word I hate but that most seem to cling to) things start to get a bit more complicated…That’s where I’m at right now. I want low body fat and lean muscle mass.

 

“For those that visit my website, they will see that my social media selfies go hand in hand with my fitness posts. I share what I eat. I also use my selfies to display the effects of how I train. I think fitness selfies get a bad rap. For those of us who work in the industry, they are the best way to display the effects of our own advice, and a great way to be held accountable.

“On top of that, for every person they irritate, they inspire another. I know that the pages of competitors such as Amanda Latona, Samantha Paparo and Yarishna Ayala spur me on when it’s 6am and the last thing I want to do is drag my butt to the gym.

“So when it comes to fitness, I say the more selfies the better. If it doesn’t motivate you to stay consistent, I guarantee it will motivate someone else to.”
