BESTFIT Issue 17 – Juicing with Jason Vale

Juicing-coverthe ‘new year, new you’ craze hits everybody like a ton of fruit and veg in January. however, you need staying power to make positive changes for life. here, Jason provides  a few juicy  recipes to help  get you started.

The Dreamy Detox, from Jason Vale’s 3-Day Juice Challenge

Apple and cucumber are amazing ingredients for flushing out and cleansing the system. The celery helps to flush the body of excess carbon dioxide and reduce acidity in the body (perfect after too much food and drink intake!)

Ginger is a well known natural antibiotic and superb decongestant while lemon is particularly powerful at removing harmful bacteria and toxins from the intestinal tract – also amazing at cleansing the liver and kidneys.

JUICY INGREDIENTS: 2 apples (Golden Delicious or Gala), 2-3cm lemon (unwaxed), 2-3cm cucumber, 1 stalk celery, 2-3cm raw ginger and 1 small handful ice.

JUICY INSTRUCTIONS: Juice everything and pour over ice. Sip slowly and enjoy!

Juice Master’s Super Detox Juice, from Jason Vale’s  7-Day Juice Challenge

Naturally sweetened with apple juice for the perfect balance, this powerful concoction contains a host of essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B, vitamin C, potassium, iron, folic acid and calcium.

JUICY INGREDIENTS: 2 apples (Golden Delicious or Gala),  1/4 medium cucumber, 1 stalk celery, 1 handful spinach leaves, 1 tsp power greens supplement and 1 small handful ice.

JUICY INSTRUCTIONS: Juice the apples, cucumber, celery and spinach. If you want to use mixed  green leaves instead of power greens, simply juice these along with the other ingredients. Blend the juice with the ice and power greens. Pour and enjoy!

Sweet Beet Smoothie, from Jason Vale’s 5-Day Juice Challenge

Blackberries are a natural antibacterial and the amount in this recipe provides you with 50% of your RDA of vitamin C, 36% of your RDA of vitamin K and 47% of you RDA of manganese. Raw beetroot is an excellent source of niacin, nitrate, folate, potassium, iron, magnesium and manganese. The antioxidants present in beetroot are significant and can help protect against coronary heart disease and strokes, as well as lowering high blood pressure in a couple of days.

JUICY INGREDIENTS: 1 apple (Golden Delicious or Gala),  2 medium carrots, 1 medium raw beetroot, 1 large handful blackberries and 1 small handful ice.

JUICY INSTRUCTIONS: Juice the apple, carrots and beet. Pour the juice into a blender along with the berries and ice. Blend for a few seconds, pour and enjoy!
